Transport
With direct access to the M25, easy road and rail access to London, a
choice of ports – from bulk cargoes to roro, passenger terminals to
container transport – and easy links to Europe and the rest of the UK,
South Essex is uniquely placed to offer a range of options for
development. London Southend Airport offers City Airport comparable
passenger route opportunities, and has a thriving executive travel
service.
The economic sustainability of the area depends on an effective
transport infrastructure, and the Partnership has established a
strategic board to deliver major schemes. A £63m programme to improve
one key intersection has just received approval, and improvements to
the major roads, linkage to the M25, and a new mass rapid transit
system are all in the pipeline.
